Sneak a Peek!

Hello Parents,

Here are some curriculum highlights from the last couple weeks:
We listened to the Governor General award-winning story "Le gros monstre qui aimait trop lire", by Lili Chartrand.  The focus of this activity was listening to understand, and sequencing the story into beginning, middle (problem) and end.  If you have an Ottawa Public Library card, you can access this book online through their Tumble Books program as well.

We made our own story book version of "Va t'en grand monstre vert".  We sequenced the pictures to match the story order.  We used French vocabulary for parts of the face (yeux, nez, oreilles, bouche, cheveux) as well as colour words found in the book.  When finished we retold the story to a friend and to Mme.

In Science, we have been discussing the characteristics of living things.
The children understand that living things:
 -change and grow
-breathe or need air
- eat or need food
- reproduce
We explored the life-cycle of a pumpkin, sequencing a series of illustrations and finding the sentences to match.  Thanks to Edward's family for donating a beautiful pumpkin to our class.  We will be saving some seeds to plant in the spring!

We acted as sound detectives!  We went on a hunt for words in the room containing the 'i' sound, the 'a' sound or both sounds together.

We continue to practise our 'mots outils'.
I would like to set a goal for all students to complete card #3 by the end of November.
Many students are already there - bravo!  I have sent home some ideas for practising sight words in the agenda tonight.

We listened to the story "Bouh" by Robert Munsch and illustrated our favourite part.

We made some "scary-good" art together!

We made some three-dimensional monsters and practised our oral language skills by talking about them in French.  We are focusing on parts of the body and describing words.  I have included a couple songs on the blog that help us learn words for the body parts.

Savez-vous planter les choux?

Have a nice weekend.  I hope to see many of you next week!
Mme Gallant
