Bienvenue!

Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year, and to our class blog!

I am happy you found your way here, and hope that this site will prove to be a valuable source of information and communication throughout the year.  I will try to post updates every week or two.  I would encourage you to explore the links and resources I have included in the tabs above.

Please take a moment to subscribe to the blog by entering your email in the "Follow by email" section at the top.  Once subscribed, a confirmation will be sent to your email address.  Please look for this confirmation, as it often gets bumped to the 'junk' folder, in order to complete your subscription. The blog will be the primary method for me to distribute information and updates this year.  If you have any problems accessing this online information regularly, please let me know and we can work out a solution.

School Supplies:
Thank you to all of the parents who provided school supplies for our class.
School supplies will be used to create and replenish shared baskets of materials for each group.  The children will not be keeping pencil cases as we do not use individual desks. To that end, if you sent in pencil cases or boxes , they will be returned for you to keep safely at home.  If you provided special materials that you would prefer not be shared, please let me know and I will happily return them to you. Here is a copy of the list of requested supplies: School Supplies  (rulers are not required for grade 1)

Physical Education:
Just a reminder that all students should have a pair of non-marking running shoes to keep at school.  Students will have physical activity built in to every day and shoes should be appropriate for active participation.

Lunch and Recess:
Students will have two, twenty minute nutrition breaks, beginning at 11:15 and 2:25, followed by 25 minutes of outdoor play.  Please send snacks and lunches that can be opened and eaten independently.

Math:
This year your child's math instruction will be delivered in English.  We are fortunate to have our next door teacher neighbour Mrs Kirby, in to teach Math for one hour each day.

Absences:
If you know your child will be absent from school, please call the school at 613-832-5527.  You may leave a voicemail with our attendance hotline indicating your child's name, and homeroom class (Gallant).  If you need to collect your child during the school day, or after school, please send note in the agenda which can be passed along to the office.

Agendas:
Your child will be provided with a student agenda.  Your child's agenda is the very best way to communicate daily notes with us here at school.  Agendas are checked first thing each morning, while it is not always possible to check email or voicemail during the school day.

Meet the Teacher Evening:
An informal meet and greet event has been planned for September 18th from 4:30 - 6:30.  I hope you can drop in to say hello and tour your child's classroom.

Looking forward to meeting you soon and anticipating a great year :)

Rebecca Gallant
